DRESSES FOR BOYS

Judging by their hair, the children on the "Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup" card and on this one are boys. At the time, girls almost never had their hair cut. While today's girls frequently wear pants, an idea that would have been shocking a hundred years ago, parents in the 1800s usually clothed younger boys in dresses.

As with most cards, especially the other one for Mrs. Winslows Soothing Syrup, this card shows some interesting details of room furnishing, especially the informal setting for a child's breakfast and the embroidered and fringed fabric covering the fireplace mantel. Another mantel, also covered with knick-knacks of the period, is in the background of the "Parker's Tonic" card.
