TREATING DOLLY'S COUGH

The illustration on this card shows a young girl's dress - notice that her skirts are shorter than those worn by adult women - and her hair style from the side and back, a detail that is rarely visible in the formal, posed photographs of the period.

Her doll is very realistic and probably has china arms and face, with the features painted on by hand. Such dolls were expensive luxury items - again, the card shows a scene from a well-to-do household.

In what is the doll sitting?
