CURE WHAT AILS YOU

What health problems do the manufacturers of Boschee's German Syrup claim that their product can treat?

The manufacturers suggest Boschee's German Syrup for three very different problems: coughs, colds, and consumption.

It's an interesting list from a modern perspective. Today, we consider coughing a symptom of many different diseases and conditions, not a disease in itself. A cold is an irritating, but not usually dangerous, illness caused by a virus. "Consumption", however, was the common name in the late 1800s and early 1900s for tuberculosis, especially tuberculosis of the lungs. During that era, tuberculosis was the single most common cause of death among North American adults. It was a much-feared disease and usually fatal.

What do these three problems have in common?
