Copied from press release from Kingston & Area Association of Museums, Art Galleries and Historic Sites, January 17, 2024
The City of Kingston Heritage Fund (CKHF) is proud to present a total of $428,496.37 to 11 Kingston community organizations, dedicated to enriching cultural heritage experiences through out the city.
The CKHF has provided funding for both projects and operations on an annual basis since 2014 to Kingston museums, cultural heritage projects and organizations. Since this time, the Kingston & Area Association of Museums, Art Galleries and Historic Sites has worked in partnership with the City of Kingston to develop and administer this community grant program.
More than ever, this type of municipal investment is critical to the resilient flourishing of our local cultural heritage landscape and empowers sites and organizations to do their best work and respond to the changing needs of their communities. A vibrant, diverse, and responsive cultural heritage sector reflects and amplifies vibrant, diverse, and responsive communities. This grant program, in terms of its size and scope, is unique within the province, and reflects the City of Kingston’s drive towards innovation and excellence,” explains Jamie McKenzie-Naish, KAM Managing Director.
“Community museums, historic sites, art galleries and cultural heritage projects are essential contributors to Kingston’s community and an important part of Kingston’s tourism and hospitality markets. They build community by creating meaningful and human connections between heritage sites, history, and identity. The City of Kingston Heritage Fund provides a source of funding that helps cultural organizations and projects enhance their profile, capacity, impact, relevance, diversity, and sustainability," explains Kevin Gibbs, Director of Heritage Services at the City of Kingston.
