IN MEMORIAM
With Gratitude
The Museum of Health Care is honored to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have contributed so meaningfully to our mission. Below, you will find tributes to individuals who were essential to the growth, governance, and spirit of our Museum. Each profile reflects our enduring appreciation for their service, friendship, and legacy.
We are honoured to preserve and share the history he entrusted to us, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
The Museum honors the late Frank Norman, who was actively involved as Chair of the Museum Board of Directors.
He was also Chairman of the Board of Kingston General Hospital from 1995-1998 and was Chairman of the Board of the Ontario Hospital Association in 2000-2001. He served in a governance role with the Loyalist Branch of St. John's Ambulance. From 2012-2024, he served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Heritage & Museum Committee of the Royal Military College.

The Museum acknowledges with deep respect the passing of Dr. Robert Hugh Gorwill on November 20, 2023, in his 85th year. Dr. Gorwill volunteered tirelessly, joining the Board of Directors in 2011 and serving as President & Board Chair from 2013 to 2017. A confidant of both the Museum’s founder, Dr. Jim Low, and many board members, his commitment was unwavering. A distinguished obstetrician-gynecologist, he led Queen’s University’s Department of OB/GYN (1985–1995), earned his MD from Western University in 1962, and concluded his illustrious academic career as Professor Emeritus in 2004

We honor the late Dr. Henry Dinsdale, who passed away on May 30, 2023, in his 91st year. A champion of the Museum for over two decades, Dr. Dinsdale served on the Board (2004–2011) and National Advisory Board, enriching our efforts through his leadership and strategic guidance. He was Physician‑in‑Chief at Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu (1983–1993) and was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1999. As Royal College Past‑President Richard K. Reznick remarked, “Henry Dinsdale was the quintessential quadruple threat, with outstanding contributions to clinical medicine, research, teaching and medical leadership.”

We extend our heartfelt remembrance of Margery Low, who passed away on October 3, 2022, in her 97th year. Though quieter in her role, Margery was a foundational partner in the Museum’s inception. Through early planning, document preparation, program design, and administration, her unwavering support alongside Dr. James Low was integral to the Museum’s founding and ongoing success.

The Museum mourns the passing of Dr. Walter Rosser on October 2, 2022, in his 81st year. Dr. Rosser supported the Museum for many years—most notably as a Board member (2012–2022), serving on the Finance Committee and as Board Secretary. A celebrated academic leader, he chaired four family medicine departments at major Ontario universities and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2008, as well as being named to the Order of Canada in 2010. He was remembered as “a passionate physician and defender of Canada’s public health care system.”

The legacy of Paul Robertson is deeply felt—not only within our Museum but across Canada’s heritage community. As Curator at the Museum (2004–2011), Paul shaped exhibits with creativity, dedication, and vision, leaving an enduring influence on how we present Canada’s healthcare history.
His warmth and energy are remembered fondly. “As a person he was a joy to be around,” said Felicity Pope, Director, Museum of Health Care.

The Museum of Health Care remembers with deep gratitude the life and legacy of Dr. Patrick (Ralph) Crawford, who passed away on July 13, 2020, at the age of 92. A gifted dentist and passionate collector, Dr. Crawford devoted decades to preserving the history of dentistry in Canada. His vision and generosity gave the Museum one of its most treasured assets: the Crawford Dental Collection. Considered one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of its kind in the country, it stands as a remarkable testament to the profession’s evolution and to Dr. Crawford’s lifelong commitment to the study and celebration of dental heritage.
