COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Bringing the Museum to You!
Our community programs are at the heart of our mission. Through hands-on learning, trauma-informed activities, and inclusive experiences for all ages, we bring health history to life in ways that support curiosity, confidence, and connection. From school workshops to seniors’ programs to our new mobile Teddy Bear Hospital, we work alongside families, educators, and community partners to make health care stories meaningful, accessible, and empowering for everyone.
Teddy Bear Hospital On-the-Go
Teddy Bear on the Go is our mobile, trauma-informed health education program designed to help young children build confidence and ease anxiety around medical settings. Through imaginative play, gentle storytelling, and hands-on activities, children learn about common health-care tools and procedures while caring for their own teddy “patients.” Delivered in classrooms, daycares, and community spaces, the program creates a safe, supportive environment where children can ask questions, explore at their own pace, and develop positive, empowering early experiences with health care.

Heritage in my Hands: Museums in my Classroom
We've teamed up with the Kingston Regional Heritage Fair to introduce a new off-site program, Heritage in my Hands: Museums in my Classroom! In this program, students will learn all about the Museum of Health Care, Kingston’s role in medical history, and how much medicine has changed over the past two hundred years. They will also get a chance to interact with real historic medical tools right from our education collection. Don’t just learn history, live history with the Museum of Health Care.

Seniors Program
Our Seniors Program is a travelling outreach initiative designed to make history accessible, meaningful, and engaging for older adults. Developed by the Museum of Health Care, this program brings interactive presentations, real medical artifacts, and hands-on activities directly to senior homes, retirement residences, and community gathering spaces.
Each session explores fascinating themes from Canada’s medical past—such as early remedies, home care practices, hospital life, and the evolution of everyday health tools—while inviting participants to share their own memories and experiences. Programs are delivered by knowledgeable Museum staff who specialize in creating warm, inclusive, and stimulating environments.
Through meaningful social and cultural experiences, our program fosters connection, sparks conversation, and celebrates the lived experiences of participants through shared storytelling and historical exploration.
