Young Canada Works Eligibility
are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
are legally entitled to work in Canada;
are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;
have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
Note: Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated in the YCWHO employment program.
Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;

Public Programs Assistant (Museum Interpreter)
SALARY: $15.75/hr
START / END DATES: May 15 – September 1
WORK HOURS: 7hrs per day, 5 days per week (35hrs/week). May 15 to 29, Monday to Friday. May 29 to September 1, Wednesday to Sunday.
The Museum of Health Care is seeking Public Programs Assistants to provide front line interpretation, programming assistance, and special event support throughout the summer. The ideal candidate will have a passion for history, demonstrate exceptional customer service skills, and enjoy working in a team environment.
Related Tasks
Working in collaboration with other Visitor Services staff, the Public Programs Assistant will focus on tasks as detailed below:
Delivering in-museum and outreach educational programming for grades K-12 and university classes, adult/senior education programs, and other community organizations
Conducting guided tours of the Museum of Health Care's galleries
Conducting outdoor guided walking tours (1 hour 45 minutes in length) of Kingston General Hospital National Historic Site and surrounding historically significant sites
Assisting in the planning and facilitation of events for adults such as lectures, and/or exhibit openings
Linking with community partners to represent the Museum at special events, such as Princess Street Promenade, and collaborate with other member museums of the Kingston Association of Museums, Art Galleries, and Historic Sites on professional development activities.
Review and expand upon existing research material highlighting the local, national, and international history of medicine and health care.
Assisting in the development of customized program and tour options for specific groups.
Gather and analyze data about numbers and origins of visitors, effectiveness of marketing methods and visitor satisfaction, interests and suggestions.
Create written materials used for blog and newsletter posts
Keep detailed, accurate records of program/tour delivery statistics
Participate in general museum maintenance and front-line customer service tasks such a gift shop purchases, wayfinding and addressing general inquiries
Required Qualifications
Excellent communication skills in written and oral English
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Familiarity with Microsoft Office
Ability to work in inclement weather (heat, rain)
Ability to independently deliver outdoor guided tours (1.5 km of walking)
Ability to lift up to 20lbs

Knowledge and/or experience of Indigenous history
General knowledge of health care history and/or social history of Canada.
Programming design experience for any age group.

Digital Content & Marketing Assistant (Marketing Assistant)
SALARY: $15.75/hr
START / END DATES: May 15 – September 1
WORK HOURS: 7hrs per day, 5 days per week (35hrs/week). May 15 to 29, Monday to Friday. May 29 to September 1, Wednesday to Sunday.
The Digital Content & Marketing Assistant will use their demonstrated video production, graphic design, and social media management skills to produce and share high-quality digital content intended for the general public. In tandem, the position will play an important role of raising awareness of, and subsequently attracting more visitors to, the Museum’s programming and curatorial efforts.
Related Tasks
Editing video, audio, and image files to produce a variety of content for the Museum’s website and social media channels;
Scheduling social media content and communication efforts
Helping to create marketing campaigns for Museum support generation and historical awareness
Producing promotional videos to support the Museum’s marketing and advancement efforts;
Developing and executing social media campaigns to boost awareness of Museum;
Taking photographs at events for promotional use and organizational documenting;
Creating materials used to upgrade and increase access to a Virtual Museum Tour
Creating multi-media content to enhance the Museum’s educational programming;
Analyzing website and social media traffic data in order to modify offerings for increased engagement;
Researching and writing of a blog post for the Museum’s Blog
Providing back-up support to frontline visitor services as needed.

Collections Technician (Museum Cataloguer)
SALARY: $15.75/hr
START / END DATES: May 15 – September 1
WORK HOURS: 7hrs per day, 5 days per week (35hrs/week). May 15 to 29, Monday to Friday. May 29 to September 1, Wednesday to Sunday.
The Collections Technician will work directly with the extensive collection of medical and health care objects and archival documents under the direction and supervision of the Collections Manager.
Please note: All candidates chose for interview will be asked to complete a sixty minute Skills Analysis Test to catalogue and photograph an object as a major portion of the interview process
Related Tasks
Catalogue and photograph selected donations
Rehouse archival items for new storage format
Review, assess, and inventory one collection and propose items to keep and to deaccession to the Curator
Keep accurate records through accession logs, donor files, cataloguing & inventory charts, and a daily activity log
Prepare objects for storage according to accepted museological, collections management, and conservation standards
Develop and film a YouTube video and / or research and write a blog post
Support other front of house staff as required, including pulling objects and door duty
Conduct collections storage rooms tours with a prepared script as required

Required Qualifications
College or university degree, preferably in history, museum studies, libraries and archives, or a related field.

Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of collection management methodology and techniques, including research, evaluation, handling, sorting, storing and labelling cultural artifacts, documents and digital files, is an asset.
Experience working in a museum environment especially in collections management, cataloguing and or handling artifacts, is an asset
Experience using collections management database software InMagic, is an asset
Background or experience in one or more of the following areas: public administration, record and information management, museology, archival science, library science, history, health sciences will be considered an asset
Previous museum experience by yourself and not as a group effort: handling artifacts, taking and editing a minimum of 20 digital images of objects in a photo studio setup and conducting an inventory of large collections will be considered assets
Digital photography in a photo studio set up will be considered an asset

Photograph a variety of historical medical and pharmaceutical objects
Act as stage and technical manager for the new film studio to create several collections based videos and coordinator for the studio for other users
Research, develop, and create a film studio temporary backdrop appropriate to the topic, set up lighting, and determine supplies required to film short videos. Edit visuals, record voiceover as needed, and add explanatory text as needed, and transcribe for translation into another language and closed captions, completed by others. Then upload videos to the Museum’s YouTube channel.
Research current professional digital presentations and update an existing two part PowerPoint Presentation into a modern and engaging style. Design and create digital graphics for documents in a Resource package, Fact Sheets, promotional materials, and press release to launch new project; create other graphics as required
Keep accurate records through completed work logs
Assist as needed in the presentation of museum public programming and gallery tours that occur during the work term
Required Qualifications
College or university degree (completed or in-progress), preferably in graphics, photography, communications, media, film,history, museum studies, or a related field.
